# MPPT Voltage Range

The band of DC input voltages within which the inverter can actively track the array's maximum power point and convert at full capability. Outside this window the inverter either cannot start, or runs at reduced output.

String design is essentially the exercise of keeping the array inside this window all year. The string's operating voltage falls as the cells heat up, so the summer afternoon case must stay above the lower limit, while the winter cold-start case must stay below the upper limit and below the absolute **maximum DC input voltage**. A string that is too short drops out of the window on hot days and simply stops producing; a string that is too long risks damaging the inverter. Note that the MPPT range is narrower than the full input voltage range quoted on some data sheets.
