The figure must match the local supply: roughly 230 V single-phase and 400 V between phases across Europe, and 120/240 V split-phase in North America. Grid-tied inverters do not truly set this voltage — they follow the grid and push current into it — but they must operate within a permitted window around the nominal value and disconnect outside it, which is why a weak or long service connection can cause nuisance shutdowns on sunny days. Off-grid inverters, by contrast, genuinely establish the voltage themselves.
