AC Output Frequency
SpecificationThe nominal frequency of the alternating current the inverter delivers, in hertz — 50 Hz across most of the world and 60 Hz in North America and parts of Asia and Latin America. A grid-tied inverter synchronises precisely to the grid's own frequency.
Frequency is also a control signal, not just a nameplate value. Grid frequency rises when generation exceeds demand, and modern grid codes require inverters to reduce output as frequency climbs above nominal, then disconnect beyond a defined threshold. A hybrid inverter running an off-grid battery system can use the same mechanism in reverse, deliberately shifting frequency to tell AC-coupled PV inverters to throttle back when the battery is full. Check the frequency rating matches the region before importing hardware.
